Leading developer of real-time AR technology enters IBC following the success of a world first deployment at The Open with Sky Sports
London, UK – 12 September 2019– Ncam Technologies, the leading developer of real-time augmented reality technology for the media and entertainment industries, today announced that the latest version of its camera tracking solution, Ncam Reality 2019.3, will debut in Europe at IBC2019.
In a world first, Sky Sports recently deployed Ncam Reality at The Open as part of its ‘Sky Scope’ segment that saw the unique camera tracking technology used to present 360 degree digital replicas of the golf swings of 11 top golfers including Henrik Stenson, Rory McIlroy, Francesco Molinari, John Rahm and Adam Scott. These digital replicas enabled the Sky Sports team to track, pause, analyse and showcase every aspect of the golf swings for viewers.
“We’re extremely proud to have worked with Sky Sports on creating the ‘Sky Scope’ segment for The Open Championship. This is just one example of how Ncam Reality can be deployed in a live, pressurised, outdoor sporting environment to produce photo-realistic augmented reality graphics,” said Nic Hatch, CEO, Ncam. “We’re looking forward to returning to IBC and showcasing how the new release of Reality offers smart and efficient solutions like this to solve many of the common challenges faced by AR users.”
Ncam Reality 2019.3 is presented for the first time in Europe at IBC 2019. It includes over 50 new features as well as more than 60 system optimisations for improved performance and enhanced capabilities to enable photo-realistic augmented reality graphics in broadcast and live sporting environments.
The new version of Ncam Reality sees added support for the Mk2 Camera Bar. It also brings full compatibility with selected HP Z2 mini and HP Z4 workstations, providing industry-standard trusted processing power with easily accessible worldwide distribution and global support.
Full support for AJA Corvid44 and AJA Kona4 has been added, including advanced camera metadata extraction and insertion in the SDI feed. Multiple outputs are also now fully supported.
‘Floating PTZ’ has also been added to this release to simplify the operation of PTZ mode.
The pedestal/tripod can be moved without losing the tracking, but tracking feeds are not streamed out while the rig is ‘floating’. Unlike similar features in competitive systems, this means the camera can be moved or adjusted without having to recalibrate the system.
Ncam-Reality-OS has been rebuilt on top of Ubuntu18.04 for long term stability, security and support.
In conjunction with the European debut of Ncam Reality 2019.3, the new Ncam AR suite for Unreal Engine 4.23 will be showcased. This Ncam AR suite has been fully redesigned and reengineered to provide better performance, with extended IO cards support and total flexibility and control for customers. A Lite version is also available to existing customers free of charge.
